Campaign Story
About the project
The unregistered urban slums in Jamshedpur face a constant threat of eviction. The community primarily relies on work in brick kilns for their livelihood. Due to poor school infrastructure and the absence of transport facilities, many children drop out and end up joining the workforce. A lack of awareness around family planning leads to overpopulated households, further contributing to rising cases of early marriage, child labor, and elopement.
Making a difference
The project team has been consistently working to ensure children are enrolled in school and retained. Key activities include regularly tracking and identifying children involved in labor, those irregular in attendance, or who have dropped out of school. Efforts are also focused on improving school and Anganwadi Center (AWC) infrastructure by strengthening and sensitizing School Management Committees (SMCs) and engaging community stakeholders. Additionally, the formation of Children’s and Adolescent Collectives plays a vital role in raising awareness within the community about the issues of child labor and child marriage.
